A Rosemount man has been charged with stabbing his mother to death in St. Cloud.
On Friday Chad Matthew Pulju, 40, was charged with second-degree murder.
Authorities in Stearns County say police were called to a south St. Cloud home early Thursday after neighbor heard a heated argument followed by a "blood-curdling scream," the St. Cloud Times reports. There officers found 68-year-old Geraldine Delores Bennett injured and covered in blood. Bennett died after being rushed to St. Cloud Hospital.
An autopsy showed that Bennett had stab wounds to her face, neck and arm, but that the fatal blow was a cut to her left carotid artery, according to a report in the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Pulju was arrested on scene after police discovered a bloody folding knife under his leg. Pulju told police he could not remember what happened. He has no significant criminal history.
Rich Wilson, the interim police chief in St. Cloud, says little is known about a possible motive.
“Nothing rational will ever fit for doing something like this,” Wilson said.
